Rep. Suh Young-Hoon, chairman of the ruling Millennium Democratic Party (MDP), said Friday that his party will move toward clearing away all obstacles standing in the way of inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation by taking measures such as revising the National Security Act. In this regard, he disclosed his party¡¯s plan to amend the politically sensitive law within this year.

In a press conference held at the National Assembly, the MDP chairman urged opposition Grand National Party (GNP) president Lee Hoi-Chang to set up his proposed ad hoc committee on inter-Korean relations. He stressed that the GNP was not lending sufficient political and parliamentary support to the development of inter-Korean relations with the arrival of the era of the Korean peninsula.

Stating that the National Assembly should be normalized unconditionally in order to deal with the supplementary budget bill for the current year and other bills related to the people¡¯s livelihood, Rep. Suh proposed that the ruling and opposition parties hold talks among their three key post holders -- their secretaries-general, floor leaders and chief policy makers.

The MDP chairman went on to assert that by enacting the anti-corruption law, a clean and transparent administration would be attained. He added that through human rights legislation Korea could make its debut in the international community as an exemplary human rights state.
