Because of a low-pressure trough coming from inland China, rain is forecast to fall in Korea starting the evening of August 23, and the number of heavy rain warning areas is expanding.
The Korea Meteorological Administration announced a heavy rain warning for the South Chungchong region, except for the West Sea, beginning at 8:30 a.m. August 24.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast that either in the evening of Aug. 24 or early in the morning August 25, heavy rain warnings will be announced in the Seoul, Gyeonggi, and North Chungchong regions, and in the morning on August 25, in the Gangwon, Honam, and Cheju regions.
By 8 a.m. August 24, the amounts of rainfall by region are: 86.0 millimeter in Boryung leading the nation, 75.3 mm in Sosan, 40.0 mm in Chonan, 25.8 mm in Suwon, 25.2 mm in Cheongju, 13.4 mm in Inchon, 8.3 mm in Seoul.
"Due to the influences of the low-pressure trough, it is raining in many places nationwide," a Korea Meteorological Administration official said. "Special preparation is required, as there will be localized areas, especially in the central region, where strong rain will pour, together with thunder and lightning.
