¡°Made in Korea¡± monitors are enjoying widespread popularity in the German market. According to a report Thursday from GFK, a European market research firm, LG Electronics sold 82,600 monitors from February to May this year, an increase of 342% from the same period last year. LG has surpassed Sony, Philips and NEC to rank number one. Moreover, Samsung electronics has sold 69,300 monitors during the same period this year to rank number two.
Thus, Korean companies have seized the number one and two positions simultaneously. The German market is considered to be the largest in Europe and the standards of the consumers are known to be very high. So far, Sony and other Japanese companies have monopolized the market. LG explained that its success is due to its "FLATRON" flat monitors, introduced last March, which have won the hearts of German consumers, and the aggressive marketing of TFT-LCD monitors this year. LG Electronics further asserted that it has also increased profitability as TFT-LCD monitors, which are high value-added products, account for 88% of sales. LG Electronics revealed that it is planning to sell 400,000 monitors in the German market, an increase of four times from last year, and a total of 3.5 million monitors through Europe, thereby aiming for the number one position in terms of market share.
