In an effort to stem the reckless pace of the nation`s development, the government yesterday revised relevant regulations to ensure parties involved in development projects will consult with the Environment Ministry before implementing them as of August 11.

In a Cabinet meeting hosted by President Kim Dae-Jung at Chong Wa Dae, the government decided that 11 types of government projects and 20 kinds of development ventures planned in certain restricted zones would be subject to consultations with the Environment Minister or Regional Environmental Agencies before they are launched.

Both the minister and heads of regional agencies will then have to notify the developer of any decisions within 30 days, and will have the authority to verify that proper environmental measures are being taken.
