Medical professor donates mother's body

A medical professor at Chungbuk National University on Tuesday donated the body of his mother, who died Sunday at the age of 88, to the university for anatomy practice.

Prof. Chung Ku-Bo, 41, of anatomy said that his mother submitted a written promise to donate her body to the university for students of anatomy in 1989, when he launched a campaign for cadaver donations.

"Such a written pledge can be withdrawn, so I was about to sound out her intention again, but she died suddenly,¡± he said. ¡°And I decided to live up to her promise after consulting with my family members."

It is rare to donate a parent`s body for medical experimentation, although there are many professors who promise to donate their bodies after they die.
