It was released on the 21st that North Korea and Canada have come to an agreement on the mutual recognition of sovereignty issue, the first step towards establishing friendly relations.
A government official revealed that the Canadian foreign ministry`s Asia-Pacific bureau chief, Margaret Hoover, visited North Korea to hold vice-ministerial level talks on the normalization of relations.
Canada suggested to the North that it would be prudent to first pass the recognition of sovereignty stage before moving forward with further discussions.
In addition, Hoover has already finalized a meeting between the North`s foreign minister, Baek Nam-Soon, and his Canadian counterpart, Lloyd Axeworthy, at the ARF conference sometime on the 27th.
