Heavy rains leave one dead

Heavy rains unleashed in South Cholla and South Kyongsang provinces from July 14th to early on the 16th triggered a landslide, killing one person and causing property damage of over 10 billion won.

In South Cholla province, 271.6 mm of rain fell in Kurye, 237 mm in Sunchon, 195.5 mm in Hwasun, 162.5 mm in Changsong and 144.1 mm in Kwangju, leaving one person dead. Also about 700 ha of farmland was flooded and property damage was estimated at 4.36 billion won.

The landslide occurred on a hill near Oikok-ri, Toji-myon, Kurye-kun in South Cholla province and hit a house, killing the owner, Chang In-Sook (54, female).

In South Kyongsang province, torrential rains averaging 142 mm poured down for two consecutive days with 319 mm falling in Sanchong, 227 mm in Uiryong and 187 mm in Hamyang, causing an estimated 7 billion won of property damage to houses and roads.
