Samsung Electronics said Tuesday it launched its mobile payment service Samsung Pay in China by partnering with China's largest credit card firm Union Pay. Samsung Pay will support Union Pay's credit and debit cards across China. Services can be used in GalaxyS7 Edge, GalaxyS7, GalaxyS6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5.

Samsung Pay has processed over 500 million U.S. dollars after launching the service in Korea in August last year. It has so far garnered 5 million users in total, including 2.5 million people in Korea and the rest in the U.S.

Samsung Pay will now engage in head-on competition in China with Apple that started its own mobile payment service there last month. Apple Pay has attracted 30 million credit cards on its first day of launch in China.
