Korean financial IT solutions company Koscom said Friday that it signed a contract on data center housing with KVH, a provider of Internet data center services in Japan.

Japanese financial institutions and companies are considering relocation of their data centers overseas due to power shortages following last year’s massive earthquake, thus helping Koscom attract a Web data center from Japan.

Koscom signed the contract on data center use with KVH in Tokyo Friday. Under the agreement, the Korean company will operate KVH’s data center by using its data center.

The two sides also agreed to conduct joint marketing in Japan as part of efforts to diversify their business lines. Koscom plans to promote its services of disaster recovery/business continuity planning, cloud computing and computer equipment sourcing to Japanese financial institutions and companies, and thus expand its customer base in Japan.

Koscom executive director Yoo Seok-dae said, “The contract is significant in that Koscom has exported its IT capability to an advanced capital market,” adding, “Through joint marketing with KVH, we will expand our business in the Japanese market in the coming years.”

KVH provides telecommunication, Internet and cloud computing services based on optic fiber networks and data centers in Japan, with its key operational hubs located in Hong Kong and Singapore.
