Shining starlight, sounds of bugs in the grass, cool weather of a summer night. These are the luxuries people can enjoy only at the PyeongChang Daegwallyeong (Great Mountains) Music Festival in Gangwon Province this summer.

Since starting in 2004, the music festival has changed its name to Daegwallyeong Music Festival from this year, and will be held from July 12 to August 9 at the Alpensia Resort in Gangwon Province. It is a cultural event that people can escape from heat as it will be held in a mountain valley.

The festival is not enjoyed just by classical music lovers. Many people are asking for the event schedule through various websites as tourism and culture can be enjoyed together. There are many tourist sites such as farms, water parks, and beaches and recently many restaurants have been added, thereby attracting many people who are coming and staying there for several days.

This year, the festival will cover music of composers whose name start with B. While previously it had focused on regions including Northern Europe, Italy and Spain, this year's event will be staging works of 26 musicians whose name starts with B including Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. Arts directors Chung Myung-hwa and Chung Kyung-hwa said, "Though it lasts for just two weeks, it will be a music travel that will be substantial and meaningful as it covers classical music and its history."

Programs include U.S. composer Christopher Berg's song on demand (July 29), world renown mime performer Gerasim Dichliev's music and dance collaboration (July 28, August 3 and 4). Soprano Lim Sun-hye's Bach Cantata (August 3), Finland harpsichord player Aapo Hakkinen's ensemble (July 28, 29, August 4).

"I love listening and watching others play and I'm sure this event will help me a lot," said pianist Sohn Yeul-eum, assistant artistic director the PyeongChang Music Festival. "I'm from Wonju, Gangwon Province, and I will support as much as I can to contribute to the festival that's being held at where I came from."
