Incitement and terrorism

Athens' democracy faced a risk when tyrant Peisistratus. Peisistratus was a cunning dictator rather than a ruthless tyrant. It is said that the number one driver of civilization is desire. Democracy's greatest advantage lies in the tolerance of varying desires that inevitably leads to conflict and coexistence. Meanwhile, when desires and conflicts are not reconciled and grow hostile, the theory of forced mediation gains momentum. In Athens, known as the bastion of democracy, democracy fell and tyranny emerged, led by Peisistratus.

After Peisistratus passed away, his two sons took over. His older brother Hippias knew what people wanted and skillfully handled them, strengthening his dictatorship. The growing threat of war with Persia also contributed to the stability of the tyranny.

As democracy supporters felt increasingly helpless, two young men named Harmodius and Aristogeiton assassinated their younger brother Hipparchus during a city festival in BC 514. Some say the reason for the assassination was retaliation to the dictatorship or personal grudges. In any case, supporters of democracy in Athens supported this act, and created a statue of the two young men, which was erected in the square. This statue was lost at some point. A replica from the Roman era is currently in the Naples Museum.

Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico was attacked by a shooting. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was murdered two years ago. Indiscriminate violence targeting innocent people is prevalent around the world. War, disease, inflation, populism, excessive sense of justice, and anger are being erupted into violence through extreme means.

Politicians' lack of responsibility, demagoguery, and populism are also reaching extreme ends. Many promote conflict and anger and act as if they are catharsis for those who are incited, taking advantage of wealth and fame. Terrorism cannot be a solution. The true solution always comes from the awakening of the people.
