Korea has won the overall title at the International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) in two straight years. The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning announced on Friday that Korean students won two gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, claiming the overall winner among competitors from 13 countries in the 20th International Astronomy Olympiad held in Kazan, Russia fornine days from Oct.15.
Korea won the 19th IAO held in Kyrgyzstan last year. In the senior group (below 18 age), Ahn Hyung-seo, a junior at Gyeonggi Science High School won a gold, Jeong Jae-yoon, a sophomore at the same school, won a silver, and Kim Soo-hyun, a senior at Seoul Science High School, won a bronze. In the junior group (below 15 age), Lee Sung-min, a senior at Soha Middle School, won a gold, and Na Hyun-joon, a senior at Haengshin Middle School, and Jeon Sang-yoon, a senior at Hwagok Middle School, won a bronze each.
