Per-capita annual power consumption in North Korea is known to have declined from that of the early 1970s, according to data released Monday through the North Korea statistics portal of the International Energy Agency as released by Statistics Korea in Seoul.
The data said per-capita power consumption in North Korea was 819 kilowatt hours in 2008, lower than 919 kilowatt hours in 1971 and just a fifth of 7,922 kilowatt hours that was South Koreas per-capita power consumption in 2008.
The Stalinist country`s per-capita power consumption rose to 1,247 kilowatt hours in 1990 but fell to 912 kilowatt hours in 1995 and 712 kilowatt hours in 2000.
A source at the South Korean power company said, Annual per-capita consumption of 800 kilowatt hours is virtually non-consumption of power other than for lighting.
