A letter written by a Pakistani nuclear scientist in 2003 says he sold nuclear technology to North Korea between the late 1990s and the early 2000s, the Sunday Times said yesterday.

The British daily acquired and released a copy of the four-page letter written by Abdul Qadeer Khan sent to his Dutch wife in the Netherlands and his daughter in England in 2003. The letter described why he leaked nuclear technology to North Korea, Iran and China.

Khan seems to have written the letter in secret and had copies sent to other places after Pakistani intelligence got information from the CIA and began investigating why he leaked nuclear technology back then.

On North Korea, he said, “(A retired general) brought three million dollars from North Korea and asked me to provide a design plan and machines.”

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said in his biography that the nuclear scientist leaked nuclear technology to North Korea by providing uranium enrichment technology such as a centrifuge.
