Samsung Electronics plans to introduce the world’s slimmest LCD TV at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from Friday through Sunday.

The 6.5mm-thick-flat TV equipped with an LED backlight is seven times thinner than Samsung’s Bordeaux 850, the slimmest TV available on the world market.

“Having developed a super-slim TV thinner than seven millimeters, Samsung can secure its position as the true leader of the international TV market in the future,” says Yoon Boo-keun, executive vice president of Samsung’s visual display division.

The company said yesterday that it overcome the poor picture quality of an ultra-slim TV with the technologies Auto Motion Plus 120Hz, which reduces motion blur, and Wide Color Control Pro, which produces a wide spectrum of colors.

The fiercest battle in the global slim TV competition is expected to erupt this year.

Sony unveiled a 9.9mm set at the IFA electronics show in Berlin in October last year, prompting Samsung to show an 8.9mm model to several of its business partners.
