Finance Ministry Revives Spokesperson System

The Strategy and Finance Ministry yesterday said it will reintroduce the ministry spokesman system to give more accurate information on the economy to overseas media outlets.

“Since the global financial crisis worsened, we have found a slew of foreign reports are delivering inaccurate news on the domestic economy. So we concluded that we need a spokesperson to properly inform of the correct situation to foreign media,” a ministry official said.

Major ministries had introduced the spokesperson system for foreign media since the 1997 Asian financial crisis, but most remain nominal or the system per se has been abolished.

The ministry is also reviewing a measure to promote its policy or provide policy documents on a regular basis to major Internet portal sites.
