Failed Raper Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

The First Criminal Division of Uijeongbu District Court sentenced Mr. Lee, 41, to 15 years in prison for attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl in an elevator at an apartment building in Ilsan, on Friday.

The court said his personal information would be disclosed and remain open to the public for five years after he serves his prison term.

This is the second time a ruling has included personal information disclosure, following last month’s ruling by the Nambu District Court in Seoul.

The court said, “Mr. Lee failed to rape a child with a knife and left an indelible mark of pain and suffering on the victim. A severe punishment is inevitable because he committed the same crime after serving in prison for 10 years.”

The court added, “As he is highly likely to repeat the same crime, he needs to be isolated from the society.”

The Uijeongbu District Prosecutors’ Office prosecuted a 20-year sentence for Mr. Kim, 33, who sexually assaulted his boss’s middle and high school daughters and their friends nine times.
