Olympic Torch Arrives in Beijing

Five thousand guests from in and out of China gather in Tiananmen Square yesterday to welcome the arrival of the Olympic torch in Beijing. Chinese President Hu Jintao lit a cauldron with the torch that arrived from Athens onboard a chartered flight in the morning. From Beijing, the torch will begin its 130-day relay under the theme “Journey of Harmony,” but sporadic protests demanding Tibetan independence could await the torch along its course.
