U.S. President George W. Bush (center), with senior members of Congress and high-ranking officials of the government standing on the stage behind him, signs the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 at the White House Wednesday in a bid to prevent a recession. Under the new legislation, some $168 billion (about 159 trillion won) will be distributed to taxpayers and low-income people. About 130 million Americans are due to receive tax refunds beginning May and a family of four will get an average $1,800 tax rebate.
