United New Democratic Party: “We Will Not Use Abbreviated Name”

The United New Democratic Party will no longer use the abbreviated form of its name in accordance with a court ruling yesterday.

The party made the decision at a supreme council meeting in Jeonju, Jeonbuk Province on September 4. Spokesman for the party Lee Nak-yeon said, “We will discard some of the stipulations in the party constitution which allow the Democratic New Party to stand for the party.”

The party had considered changing its name to the United New Party, but decided not to because the name could confuse voters with the election just 100 days ahead and because other party already registered the name with the Central Election Management Committee.
