On June 19, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation announced its decision not to allow local governments to disperse public institutions to outside of innovative cities.
Jeong Chang-soo, vice head of the Public Institution Transfer Promotion Group, explained, We finalized the innovative city development plan, including a plan to use land for public institutions that will be transferred to innovative cities. We will not approve some local governments requests for the dispersal of the public institutions.
South Gyeongsang Province had wanted to disperse some of its public institutions to other cities besides Jinju, its innovative city.
On the other hand, the ministry will provide support for the facilities of innovative cities, including entrance roads, water supply infrastructure, and drainage systems, with an average fund of 70 billion won per city. Specific plans will be made in the second half of this year.
The approval procedure for the remaining three innovative cities will be finalized next month. Construction work will start in September as land compensation commences in July.
