“Happy Birthday Buddha”

A parade of some 100,000 colorful lanterns in various shapes such as dragons, pagodas, white elephants, and phoenixes, and hundreds of large-sized lanterns filled Jongno Street between Dongdaemoon (Great East Gate) and Chogae Temple four days before Korea is set to celebrate Buddha’s birthday on May 24. In an event held prior to the parade in the Dongdaemoon Stadium, a child monk is beaming with joy.
