In Shinuiju of 1924, nuns with blue eyes are riding in sledges on the ice at the Amnok River. The nuns look excited like children.

The woman in Korean traditional costume (middle in the left group) is Seo Hye-ryeon, wife of painter Jang Bal who was brother of former prime minister Jang Myeon. Seo was an interpreter for nuns from Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, Maryknoll Missioners (M.M.).

The picture was found by the Diocese of Pyongyang. The Catholic Church in Korea will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the diocese this March.
