University Teams Vie for Hoops Title

Korea University and Chung-Ang University will be vying for the championship title in the 2006 Korea Development Bank Cup Basketball League.

Eyeing its first championship title in the Korean Basketball League, Korea University won the semifinals of the men’s first league against professional team Sangmu, 90-74 in Jamsil Student Gymnasium on November 29. It has reached the final round for the second straight year.

Kim Young-hwan, a senior forward for Korea University garnered 25 points during the last two quarters, and he was the best scorer of the game with 33 points total, together with 11 rebounds. Ha Jae-pil, a forward for Korea University, added 21 points and nine rebounds.

Korea University secured its victory by aggressively shooting under the basket against the Sangmu squad and out-rebounded Sangmu 46 to 27.

Ham Ji-hoon (24 points) and Kang Byeong-hyeon (20 points) led Chung-Ang University to victory against Myongji University, 86-65. Chung-Ang was the champion of 2000 league when Kim Ju-seong, a star player for Chung-Ang, was playing as one of its students.

The match between Korea University and Chung-Ang University will take place on November 30.
