U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, who has a lower approval rating than President George W. Bush due to a gun incident and his support for the Iraq war, appeared to give the Commencement address at Louisiana State University on May 19. As if to reflect his popularity, audience seats were mostly empty. On the day’s speech, Cheney said, “Be on watch for those certain moments and certain people that come along and point you in a new direction.” Having entered into politics in the early 1960’s, he mentioned that Donald Rumsfeld, then a congressman, was such a person for him.
