Clarinet player Lee Hwan-hee (15) and oboe player Lee Eun-bee (14) took individual first place honors yesterday at the German Youth Music Concours (Jugend Musiziert) yesterday.

The competition was sponsored by the German government and the German Federal Music Association, and is the most prestigious youth music competition in Germany.

The judges were warm in their praise of the two, saying, “[Hwan-hee] has great expression and her tone quality is beautiful…[Eun-bee] has a strong musical foundation and is likely to develop further.”

After arriving in Germany in 2002, the two sisters enrolled in Fritzlar Holmberg Music Elementary School. They are currently studying at Bach Music Junior High and High School. Hwan-hee is also attending the Hanns Eisler University preparatory school, while Eun-bee is pursuing a Berlin University of the Arts preparatory school course.
