Science Hall of Fame Gets 3 New Members

Dr. Lee Hui-so (1935-1977), a Korean physicist and former Nobel Prize nominee, Dr. Jang Ki-ryeo (1911-1995), Korea’s foremost liver cancer expert, and ancient sage Seo Ho-su (1736-1799), an astronomer from the late Joseon Dynasty, have been named to Korea’s Science Hall of Fame.

Lee was a world-renowned physicist who did his research at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory at Chicago University and was nominated as a Nobel Prize candidate in elementary particle physics.

Jang, a surgeon who performed liver cancer resection surgery for the first time in Korea, was committed to philanthropy and services for the poor and needy throughout his life.

Seo, an eminent scientist under the reign of King Jongjo of the Joseon Dynasty, studied astronomical revolutions and consolidated Korea’s standard time system.
