Contaminants, including benzene, leaked after an explosion at a benzene plant in Jilin, China, flowed 200 kilometers on the Songhua River to reach Harbin, Heilongjiang Province on the morning of November 24. The Chinese government has not provided any accurate report on the incident to its people for almost ten days since the onset, causing Harbin citizens to recklessly embark on panic buying of food and evacuation.
