As part of the ongoing whooping crane relocation plan, costumed ultralight pilot Brook Pennypacker is leading whooping cranes at dawn on October 27. Under this plan, whooping cranes have been led by ultralight planes every autumn since the late 1990s. Whooping cranes are an endangered species and only about 400 birds are left on the planet. They are being moved to the Florida coast from Necedah National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin.
