Eight female North Korean defectors who entered the Ewha Korean School in Qingdao, China on October 11 and demanded to be sent to Korea were taken to the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Qingdao.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade official stated, The defectors entered the Korean school at about 9:00 a.m. (about 10:00 a.m. Korea time) and after consulting with the Chinese authority, the government escorted them to the consulate general at about 1:50 p.m.
The incident drew interest particularly as it occurred after the Chinese government forcibly sent seven North Korean defectors back to North Korea a month after they entered a Korean international school in Yantai on August 29.
