Optical Cable for Video Family Reunions Connects North and South

Optical cable, which will be used to transmit video reunions of families separated by the Korean War, scheduled for August 15, will connect North and South Korea. A ceremony for the connection of the optical cable was held on the afternoon of July 18 on the South Korean side of the military demarcation line near the Gyeongui Railway in Gwangtan-myeon, Paju, Gyeonggi Province. Korea Telecom (KT) officials from the South and officials of the North Korean Ministry of Post and Telecommunications participated in the event. Maeng Soo-ho, the director of KT’s Planning and Coordination Office (front row, right) and Kim In Chul, the North Korean minister of Post and Telecommunications, are showing related equipment.
