“Scarlet Letter” Director Byun Hyuck Named Professor at Yonsei University

Director Byun Hyuck (39) of the movie “The Scarlet Letter,” which was released last December, will become a professor at Yonsei University in Korea.

According to an official at Yonsei University, Byun is expected to give a lecture as a new professor on the subject of Television and Film at the Yonsei Graduate School of Communication and Arts starting the second semester in September.

Considering that currently, most professors of the Yonsei Graduate School of Communication and Arts are theorists who majored in Mass Communication and Journalism, appointing Byun, a current director, as a professor is unprecedented.

It has been known that the university has set a high value on his brilliant capacity, which combines theory with experience in the field. Byun majored in French at Korea University, finished at the Korean Academy of Film Arts, and completed a master’s course in Film at University of Paris 8, France. Afterward, he finished a professional master course in movie directing at the French National Film School and then earned a doctoral degree in Visual Aesthetics at University of Paris 1.
