The Presidential Committee on Northeast Asian Cooperation Initiative (PCNACI) caught in controversy related to the Haengdam Island Development Project, is expected to be reorganized. A relevant official from the board revealed on June 14, “The government plans to reshuffle the organization based on the conclusion that the works of the subcommittees have been overlapped so far,” adding, “By doing so, the authorities want to refresh the gloomy mood within the committee, which was created after former chairman Moon Jung-in resigned.”

The PCNACI consulted with an outside consultancy about its reorganization last month. Now, the committee is considering changing the number of subcommittees from the current four (consisting of strategy planning, peace team, social and cultural cooperation, and economic cooperation committees) to three (South and North cooperation, northeast Asia cooperation, and planning and public relations committees).

An official from the PCNACI said, “The committee had been controlled by former chairman Moon but from now on, the organization will be run by a system.”
