Early this month, the Permanent Mission of the DPRK to the U.N. made a phone call to the U.S. State Department and discussed the issue of Pyongyang’s return to the six-way talks, reported Japan’s Mainichi Shimbun on June 4, quoting other sources.

The newspaper added that the contact was the first in five months since North-U.S. official-level talks on May 13, and that the two sides are highly likely to hold a bilateral dialogue on six-party talks in the near future. Sources reported that Pyongyang’s message regarding the North’s return to the negotiation table seems to have been delivered to Washington.
