China Indignant

On April 16, protesters gathered for an anti-Japanese demonstration in Shanghai, the economic center of China. The protests centered on Japan’s distortions of history in its textbooks and its territorial claim over islands in the East China Sea. The demonstrations showed no sign of abating on April 17 when a foreign ministerial meeting between the two countries was held. The bilateral relationship of the two countries is at a crossroads.
