Opposing the government’s plan to hold this year’s commemorative event of the March 1 independence movement at the Yoo Kwan-soon Memorial House in Ewha Girls’ High School in Jeong-dong, Seoul, instead of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, religious circles and a group of people who fought for national independence demanded a change of venue on February 24.

The council for the government’s withdrawal of its plan to change the 86th anniversary event of the March 1 independence movement (with 10 members, including the co-head of the council, Park Nam-soo) claimed in its statement on that day, “Holding the commemorative event in the Yoo Kwan-soon Memorial House in Ewha Girls’ High School, whose foundation ideology is based on Christian beliefs, degrades the 33 national delegates who jointly signed the Declaration of National Independence, and reduces and perverts the meaning of the March 1 independence movement.”
