Ministerial conference on economy will be unified into a coordination conference for economic policy, and ministers of Education and gender equality will participate in the meeting as members of the rightful position committee starting from next month. The ministry of Finance and Economy announced that “we will abolish the ministerial talks on economy, which were started in 1998, implement this starting next month after unification into the coordination conference for economic policy.”

This happened as a result of the indication that the purpose and structure between current ministerial talks and the coordination conference are almost similar. The government plans to lay a revised bill on the coordination conference to the vice-ministerial meeting on February 14.

The revised bill includes the content adding four members such as the ministers of Education and Gender Equality, the Government Information Agency chairman, and the Presidential senior secretary for policy planning besides 19 current participants into committee members of the rightful position for the coordination conference on economic policy.

This is resulted from the indication that pending issues related to education and women such as laws on private educational fees and prostitution prevention influenced the economy directly, but were not discussed sufficiently. Accordingly, major policy decision makers including Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hun-jai, Education Minister Kim Jin-pyo, and Presidential Senior Secretary for Policy Planning Lee Jeong-woo will attend the coordination conference on economic policy.
