More than 80 percent of the local administrators are reportedly against introducing the comprehensive real estate tax.

The National Association of Mayors announced on November 4 that 190 out of 234 nationwide local government leaders, or 81 percent, have signed a resolution opposing the comprehensive real estate tax, which was adopted on October 19.

Particularly in the County Council, whose members were known to be supporting the government’s plan to incorporate the comprehensive real estate tax in the national tax, 56 out of all 88 members also joined in signing the resolution.

The council said, “The central government’s taxation of the comprehensive real estate tax will violate the autonomous right of local governments and is tantamount to going against the policy of decentralization. Even considering the current situation of the economy, additional taxation will increase the taxpaying burden on the part of residents.”
