Public Hearings on Capital Relocation to Start Next Week

The public hearing circuit on the suitability of Yeongi-Gongju for the new capital site will begin on July 12.

The Presidential Committee on Administrative Capital Relocation announced on July 9 that it would hold public hearings around the country to explain to the people the results of the evaluation of capital relocation candidate sites and gather people’s opinions on the relocation process.

Public hearings will be held in nine cities and provinces starting from Daejeon on July 12, Cheongju in North Chungchong Province (13), Busan (14), Gwangju (15), Chuncheon in Gangwon Province (15), Seoul (16), Jeonju in North Jeolla Province (20), Daegu (21), and Jeju (22). At the first public hearing to be held at the Daejeon Expo international conference room, Lee Min-won and Park Sang-gyu, executive members of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development and the Presidential Committee on Administrative Capital Relocation, respectively, Kwon Yong-woo, head of candidate sites evaluation committee, and Song Doo-beom, a researcher of Chungnam Development Institute (CDI), will make presentations. Debaters from the academic world, research institutions, and civic groups will express their opinions at each public hearing.
