A well-informed high-ranking military source from Washington said that the U.S. is not considering the dissolution of the United States Forces Korea (USFK), United Nations Command (UNC), and the Republic of Korea United States Combined Force Command (ROK-U.S. CFC). Relating to the Washington Times report that the U.S. Department of Defense is pushing for a large-scale reconfiguration of its U.S. Pacific Command, including the dissolution of the USFK, UNC and ROK-U.S CFC, this source explained, This assertion has been discussed only in the view of research during the past 10 years, and the U.S. defense authorities have not given thought to it. He also added, Since U.N. command bases must be considered on the U.N. level, and ROK-U.S. joint bases handled between the two countries, the U.S. cannot unilaterally decide or push, and this matter has not yet been officially raised.
