Electricity Failure & Car Accident On the Way to Go to a Voting Place

On December 19 of a voting day, there were small and big accidents. Some polling booths had no electric light.

At 10 a.m. of the day, a car taking aged men in Boseong-eub, Boseong-gun Jeonnam, was crashed due to a careless driver and so five passengers were injured and couldn’t go to the poll.

On the pass of Dabyang-ri Annae-myeon Okcheon-gun Chungbuk at 9 a.m., a truck with two passengers, skidded on the slippery road and the car accident occurred. The passengers were on the way to go back home after voting early in the morning.

There was also an interruption of electric power. Around 5:30 a.m. of the day, the electricity was suddenly interrupted near Juyeob 2-dong Daehwa-dong Ilsan-gu Goyang-si Gyeonggi.

Because of it, four pooling places including Daehwa-dong 1 (Seongjeo elementary school), Daehwa-dong 2 (Jangseong middle school), Daehwa-dong 4 (Juyeob high school) and the polling place 2 of Juyeob 2 didn’t have the electricity for 40 minutes∼2 hours.

The election campaign staff posted in the pooling place, turned on the light with candles, but several million of voters felt inconvenience to vote under the candle.

Mr. Lee (32· female ·Daehwa-dong Ilsan-gu) said, “I was amazed at voting under the light of the candle. There must be more careful election management because the national event could be interrupted because of small carelessness”.

Also, in Ulsan, 50 polling places temporarily had no electric power around 9:50 a.m. of the day for 4 minutes due to unknown accident. Dopo voting station2 (Yeongam-gun Jeonnam) and the Sangmu 1-dong voting station 2 (Seogu Gwangju) had no electric power due to an overload of electricity.
