Samsung SDI, World Number 1 in Forwarding of Mobile Phone Panel

Digital Times of Taiwan reported on December 5, that Samsung SDI won the first place in a forwarding percentage of panel for the mobile phone this year.

According to the Digital Times, up to the third quarter (July∼September), the forwarding percentage of Samsung SDI was 24.4% and so Samsung SDI won the first place. There are Seiko Epson of Japan(22.4%), PHILIPS(19%) and Seiko Instruments (7.7%).

However, SDI showed 14.8% and Seiko Epson showed 24.1% when the panel shipment of the mobile phone is indicated as an amount of money. PHILIPS and SHARP took the place. There are Seiko Epson of Japan(22.4%), PHILIPS(19%) and Seiko Instruments (7.7%).

The Digital Times reported that the world forwarding quantities of the mobile phone panels were 291 million units for nine months (Jan. ~ Sept.), increased by 14.1% over the same period of the previous year as the demand of the mobile phone with a color LCD and camera has suddenly increased in Japan. If the current tendency is continued, the consumption of the mobile phone panel will be 402 million units, increased by 24.1% over the previous year.

It is forecasted that the forwarding quantity of the color mobile phone will be 84,450,000 units increased by 70% over the previous year (49,670,000 units). Also, in most of countries, the exchange demand of mobile phone will sharply increase next year. In 2004, one of two new mobile phones will be the color product.
