3G communication (IMT-2000) market shows that there is a big gap between synchronous system of US (CDMA2000) and asynchronous system of EU(W-CDMA).

According to CDMA Development Group (CDG), international organization related to CDMA on November 27, as communication companies in Asia and America have commercialized ‘CDMA2000’, the world population of 3G CDMA subscribers exceeded 23,840,000 people at the end of October.

The investigation said that there were total 26 companies including SK Telecom, KTF and LG Telecom which have commercialized 3G CDMA as of November.

Many companies have changed the asynchronous system into the synchronous system. In the field, Bell Mobility of Canada, Telecom Mobile of Australia, Mobile net of Venezuela, BellSouth of Equador and US Cellular have joined. It is estimated that 20 asynchronous system companies will start 3G CDMA service additionally.

Besides, it is forecasted that the population of the asynchronous system subscribers will be around 1300000 people this year. While the European companies based on the technical standard of the asynchronous system 3G service has postponed the commercialization due to a financial difficulty, NTT DoCoMo of Japan has provide the commercialization service.

A spread of 3G CDMA will be a favorable factor in Korean communication industry which has commercialized its technology firstly. In particular, the world CMDA terminal market share of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics exceeded 50%. If this trend will be continued, the terminal exports will largely increase.

Perry La Forge, directing executive of CDG said, “As the synchronous system 3G CDMA can provide the effective high speed data communication service with low investment, the commercialization companies have suddenly increased.”
