Rusa, the 15th typhoon of the year, is expected to land on the South Coast today, raising concerns about damage caused by accompanying strong winds and heavy rain. In particular, additional damage is expected in the Gyeongnam region, which was ripped through by previous torrential rains.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) forecast that as of 3 pm, Rusa accompanied with strong wind is moving northwest at 15km per hour, and expected to pass through the coasts south of Yosu, South Cholla Province on the 31st before arriving in the inland area.

The entire peninsula is expected to be under the influence of Rusa, seeing torrential rain on the 31st. Storm surges of up to 3m to 9m are forecast at sea.

The typhoon is expected to take a turn to the East Coast on Sep 1 after passing through the Yeongnam region and Gangweon Province.

The KMA issued typhoon warnings in South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang provinces, and a higher level of warning on Jeju Island and the South Sea yesterday.

Rusa maintains the center pressure of 950hPA and central wind velocity of 38m per second.

Rusa grounded passenger ships that piled between Jeju and other regions yesterday.

About 2,500 boats have been evacuated in Jeju Island, and Mt. Halla has been restricted from entering.
