Semiconductor-LCD Sales to Increase by 50 Percent This Year

“We anticipate that sales in memory semiconductor, LCD, and system LSI fields will increase by 50 percent this year. ”

Lee Yoon-Woo (56. photo) executive of Device Solution Network Division in Samsung Electronics said on the 23rd that prospects for semiconductor and LCD market is encouraging due to the recovery of business and increasing demands for changing computers.

“TFT-LCD is a leading item among various display goods including cathode-ray tube, PDP, and STN-LCD. You will be able to find TFT-LCD at every place of human life, ”said executive Lee, who charges the semiconductor and TFT-LCD business in Samsung Electronics.

He stressed, “we will open up a new market of TV and mobile phone handsets along with computers, and lower the price of TFT-LCD, current price of which is 25 dollars per an inch, to 10 dollar-level through renovation on producing process. ”

Executive Lee is known as a man of merit, who made Samsung Electronics No.1 in the field of memory chip and large TFT-LCD. He prepared the base of semiconductor business as technology team leader in the early 1980s, raised TFT-LCD business a promising business through continuous research and development in spite of deficit after taking over the business from Samsung SDI in 1991.
