[Opinion] Local Elections That Is Shadowed By Major Elections

The date, 13th June is the third nationwide simultaneous local Election Day.

Not even 3 months are left from today.

Though Election Day is so near, social interest on local government elections is too low.

It is because everybody cares only for Presidential elections.

However, seeing coolly, there is no important political event than local government elections.

It doesn`t mean that we should be reminded of its significance on textbooks, like local government is training place of democracy or sample of neighborhood politics, which deals with the task of livelihood.

The reason why all of us pay attention to Presidential elections is that new organization order and convention for new environment is based on alternative of President, the systematic device that promises more effective operation among them is the very local government, I presume.

One of the reason why various reformation programs, which we used to pressurize steadily after prestige times ended as failure, is because we approached reformation task by concentrating only on Central Government.

World is rapidly diversifying and getting pluralized, however, government`s reformation programs were standardization and centralization, centered on central government, avoiding social demand.

On this, how the result of reformation will be is too clear.

If government is to precede reformation program successfully in variable society, it should seek and adjust reformation compatibility to real requirement according to various viewpoints.

For this approaching strategy like adhering to society and decentralizing reformation task is the most effective measure.

Subjective job of each local government on reformation is indispensable requirement.

The level of reformation program is also like that.

Reformation program that government has been promoting, should reconsider efficiency or economy in managing national affairs, by rationalizing management system of central government.

However the country like us where excessive centralized system causes non-economy and non-efficiency should re-adjust the function between central government and local government, which is the most urgent task.

The level of constitutional reformation is required.

If such order for reinforcing local government wants justification, above all else, securing reformation direction of local government and to achieve visible job based on this, is prior task.

Innovative local government should be formed and made efficient in the process.

For this, it should promote strategic support for the one who has innovation and is capable of managing local government, by making an effort at the time of formation of local government.

Therefore, we should observe these local elections with high interest and enthusiasm than any other time.

I hope that pan-national movement for expanding opinion of national reformation which depends on local election success can rise up.
