The Grand National Party repeatedly urged the New Millennium Democratic Party for the early local election in May rather than the scheduled 6.13.

Yang Jeong-Kyu, Vice president of GNP, asserted at the presidential meeting of GNP yesterday that "the security and the efficacy of the World Cup will be questionable if all candidates and the party members are absorbed in the election game during the Word Cup period. The majority of the people want to have early local election."

Kwon Chul-Hyun, the spokesperson of GNP, also emphasized that "Since Korea is a country where the U.S. Armed Forces are stationed and Korea is in the same group with the U.S., we should be thoroughly prepared for any possible terrorist activities. The NMDP`s plan to hold a local election as scheduled without considering the security of the nation is only a political aggression."

He also added, "NMDP must reconsider the early local election, abandoning its rejection without reason against the request of the opposition party."
