MDP Decides to Lodge Complaint, GNP Calls It Ignorance of Jurisdiction

While the New Millennium Democratic Party decided on Oct. 23 to lodge a complaint with the Supreme Prosecutor`s Office against Jeju Police Office Sergeant Im Kun-Don and the Grand National Party Jeju Office Organization Director Kim Kyun-Teak, for whose arrest a warrant had been requested on a charge of leaking police intelligence documents, but had been rejected by the court, the Grand National Party strongly criticized the MDP`s decision, calling it a `super-legal conception`.

▽ The MDP`s decision to lodge a complaint==The MDP concluded at in-house four leaders council that `according to the members of an in-house committee to eradicate malicious propaganda, who visited Jeju Provincial Police Agency and probed the incident on Oct. 22, the document in question was a false report that had been produced on the basis of the producer`s own subjective judgment on the order of the GNP`, and decided to lodge a complaint with the Supreme Prosecutor`s Office by Oct. 24 against two persons on charges of fabricating official documents and using them.

Rep. Chung Dong-Young, a member of the MDP`s supreme council and the chairman of in-house committee to eradicate malicious propaganda, said, ``We concluded it to be desirable to lodge a complaint against Sergeant Im since it was confirmed at the field investigation that the document in question had been forged subjectively.``

In addition, the MDP Deputy Spokesman Lee Young-Sik urged, ``The GNP leader Lee Hoi-Chang must reveal whether he was informed in advance of a GNP lawmaker`s plan to use the fabricated document on the order of the GNP at the National Assembly as political propaganda.``

▽ The GNP`s refutation==The GNP Senior Deputy Spokesman Chang Kwang-Keun criticized in his comments, ``The ruling party has begun to trample on the authority of jurisdiction as it became embarrassed when the request for arrest warrants of Sergeant Im and the other was rejected by the court.``

``The MDP is making a false accusation in order to rekindle a controversy by being obstinate with the October 25 re-election and by-election ahead.`` he continued. ``That means what the government-ruling party can trust is nothing but the Prosecutior`s Office.``

Spokesman Kwon Chul-Hyun said, ``The rejection of arrest warrants of Sergeant Im and the other proves that the police investigation was irrational.`` and demanded, ``Those responsible for planning and directing the night search of the GNP Jeju Office should be sorted out and punished.``

He also said, ``The substance of this incidence consists in whether or not the MDP lawmaker Kim Hong-Il is linked to `Lee Young-Ho Gate.`` and demanded, ``The truth should be revealed through tracking bank accounts.``
