`Second Round of Press Suppression Is Coming`

The Grand National Party asserted that ``the first press suppression by the National Tax Service and the Fair Trade Commission is now upgraded by the second press suppression of the Public Prosecutors Office.`` GNP also urged the government to release the amounts of the tax evasion and the tax penalties of other press companies and to accept the congressional investigation on the press.

GNP held a special committee for the countermeasures to protect the press freedom, insisting ``the government must stop the serial plots to continue its power with the pretext of the press reformation.`` [GNP] will fight against the government if it continues the anti-press policies. The special committee also criticized that the government ``is trying to paralyze specific press companies that have been against the government.`` In addition, GNP anticipated, ``the detention of the press owners will be followed by the withdrawal of the critical intellectuals, the reformation of some press companies as minjung medias, and the witch hunting on the critical newspapers by some NGOs.``
