The Visually-Impaired Call Taxi From Next Month

Taxi call for the visually-impaired are to be operated from the next month.

The Korea Blind Union is to operate `happy-call taxi,` which will equip with an exclusive line for the blind (02-666-5236) in addition to the regular page number (02-555-8787).

320 taxi drivers have joined for the `happy-call` service. And the receptionist of this phone line is also a visually-impaired person. The Union aims to increase the member drivers up to 1000. A portion of income is to be accumulated as the welfare fund for the visually-impaired.

An associate of KBU said, ``Common drivers are not trained to help the visually-impaired but the `happy-call` drivers are trained, and therefore, the visually-impaired persons are to use more convenient taxis from next month.``

The Union is to hold a ceremony for the 20th anniversary of its foundation and the set-off ceremony of the `happy-call` service in Konkuk University today.
